The Apprentice is a 2002 medical thriller novel by Tess Gerritsen. It is the second book of the detective Rizzoli series.
Here’s my review of the book.
Plot
As soon as the murderous “Surgeon” is on the loose, a new serial killer appears in Boston. This time, the murderer entered the house, killed the husbands, and took the wives. “Surgeon,” an ex-murderer, escapes from prison soon after Detective Rizzoli is involved in the case. In the middle of the investigation, FBI agent Gabriel Dean appears. He is hiding something. But what is he hiding? Prison escape “surgeon,” and the new killer will play a death game?
My Review
The seventh book I read in April is The Apprentice by Tess Gerritsen. This is the second book in the Detective Rizzoli series. While the first book, “The Surgeon,” was purely a serial killing/police procedural, “The Apprentice” also featured a lot of psychological themes. Along with the psychology of the killer, the psychological aspect of the detective who chases the killer is also depicted in a dark way. Like the first book, Detective Rizzoli was the epitome of a strong and confident woman. This time, the medical terms were few compared to “The Surgeon,” which is usually a relief to general readers.
As the author’s thrilling descriptions are detailed and precise, everything makes an impact on the mind. While reading, the smell of rotting corpses came to my nose. The descriptions were spot on. It will be difficult for the weak-minded to digest them.
