The Crucifix Killer by Chris Carter is the first book of the Robert Hunter series. This book was first published in 2009. The book introduces us to the character Robert Hunter, a homicide investigator. When the naked body of a woman is found in a cottage, Hunter is called to investigate. And so begins a highly gripping book that leaves you wanting more at the end of every single chapter.
Here’s my review of the book.
Plot
The naked body of a young woman was found in an abandoned cottage. A carved crucifix was found on the back of this woman’s neck. The pattern of murders and mysterious phone calls point to a notorious psychopath murderer. But how is that possible? A few years ago, the murderer was executed! An old case comes alive. Homicide investigators Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia’s nightmarish night begins.
My Review
One of the best books I read last year was “The Chestnut Man.” This is the first book I read on serial killing. As a result, I had an idea about serial killing. That’s why I bought the book “The Crucifix Killer.” I finished reading the book on December 31 around 10:30 PM; I was immersed in the book all day to finish the book before the new year started. Reading a large part of the book in one sitting made it possible to fill the story better. After completing the book, I was just shocked. The book is a roller coaster ride from the beginning, which ends on the very last page. The beginning of the book is enough to compel you to read the book. Throughout the book, the story moves forward at high speed, but towards the end, the story overtakes its own pace. Also, I have never seen such a detailed description of everything in the book, especially every murder, such a detailed description of the crime scene. These descriptions are horrifying and downright brutal, and some are enough to make the hair stand on end.
In addition to the details of the investigation process, almost everything has been described in detail; I enjoyed it very much! Everything is written perfectly. The two homicide detectives, Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia, are pretty talented, but the villain is no less, in a word, brutal. He keeps the two detectives almost in the dark throughout the book, following a mirage. In the book, there are numerous twists along with brutality, grotesqueness, and perverted sex. And the conversations about criminal psychology are also quite enjoyable. I tried to predict the biggest twists but failed miserably. When I found out who this serial killer was and why he murdered innocent people so cruelly, I thought the story ended, but I was wrong again. When the case ended, I didn’t expect any more twists left, but unexpectedly, the last and most cruel, heartbreaking twist of this book is given: the doctor’s autopsy. Report!!! To hurt someone, to upset someone, what can people do…
Characterization
The two main characters in the book are Homicide Detective Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia. Both characters are portrayed very well by the author. In addition, the author presents each character very beautifully, starting from the victims and their families, including the police captain Bolter, Robert’s lover Isabella, and the underworld Don D-King. In terms of characterization, a writer is very successful when his narration makes you fall in love with the negative character of the story and a soft corner will be created inside your mind for the villain of this story. In this case, the writer, Chris Carter, is 100% successful.

Personal rating
9/10. This is a must-read book for all thriller lovers. The ending twist alone is enough to buy and read the book. I can’t wait to read the second book of the series.
