The Escape By David Baldacci Book Review

The Escape by David Baldacci is the third book of the John Puller series. For those who don’t know, John Puller is a top investigator in the US Army’s CID. Puller is the man the US Army relies on to investigate the toughest crimes facing the nation.

I have read many crime fiction by David Baldacci. Among them, The Escape is different and one of the best. After reading Zero Day and The Forgotten, this is the book I’ve been looking for as a thriller reader.

Plot

John Puller is tasked with capturing an escaped prisoner from an impenetrable military prison. That prisoner is none other than John Puller’s older brother, Robert Puller. Summons issued by the upper-ranked officer state that this most wanted criminal must be caught and re-imprisoned at any cost. And they appointed John Puller to catch his brother.

After investigating, John realized that not only he but many others were looking for his brother. He had to join another agent to solve the case, but from the beginning, he had trust issues with his partner. There is also doubt about the charges brought against Robert. Who wants to keep the truth behind the curtain?

Puller doesn’t know if his investigative talent and fighting skills will be enough to save his brother from the mad dogs that have been unleashed. Will he be able to survive?

My Review

“We are captives of our own identities, living in prison of our own creation.” Remember Theodore Bagwell’s famous quote from Prison Break? While reading David Baldacci’s “The Escape,” scenes from Prison Break kept coming to mind. I think Mr. Baldacci is a big fan of Prison Break.

After a long time, I read a book as exciting as Prison Break. However, here, the story is more focused on the events after the break than the break. The Escape is the third book in the John Puller series. I was already familiar with David Baldacci’s writing through reading “The Innocent” from the Will Robbie series. The writing is tense, exciting, fast-paced, devoid of unnecessary romanticism, and without excessive description.

Many flavors will come together while reading this book by David Baldacci. First, I talked about Prison Break. Second is Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series. The action sequences are often reminiscent of James Bond.

I always liked this style of content, so needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Reading this book of around five hundred pages will not be boring at all. The series of turns and twists doesn’t get bogged down or feel inconsistent. The mercury of excitement will not rise or fall before all the mysteries are solved.

Personal Rating

8.5/10. Take your time and start reading the John Puller series. Even though the books are in the same series, they are stand-alone, so you can start with anyone. It shouldn’t be a problem. Thanks for taking the time to read.
