Book Review: The Crossing By Michael Connelly

The Crossing by Michael Connelly is a 2015 crime novel. It is the eighteenth book in the Harry Bosch series.

Here’s the story summary and my review of the book.

Plot

Harry Bosch, who chased criminals all his life, went against his conscience and is now working for a criminal! At the request of Brother Mickey Haller, Bosch reluctantly takes on the responsibility of investigating the case of a prisoner accused of murder. Then Bosch noticed the prosecution’s file just had too many holes, and he had to find out if Haller’s client didn’t do it, then who did? Harry starts digging. Soon, his investigation leads him inside the police department, where he realizes that the killer he’s been tracking has also been tracking him.

My Review

The Crossing is the first book by Michael Connelly that I read. I had not read any of his writings before and I like his writing very much.

The story begins with a fight between two lawyers in the courtroom. But that was not part of the main story. The main story starts after that. The beginning of the book is a bit plain but quite fun. The mystery thickens as the story progresses.

Retired detective Harry Bosch’s brother Mickey Haller, a prominent criminal case lawyer, offers Bosch a fair investigation for his client, who is accused of murder. After looking at all the documents in the case, Bosch realized that there were many holes in the police investigation. Then begins the magic of Bash. One after another, holes were found. What Bosch saw after these torn threads were put together was quite surprising. Many more incidents and dramas happen in between. The reader will understand them after reading the book.

It is a fact that, in any case, a single loophole can turn the whole case upside down. Again, from a small clue, even big fish can be caught in the net. The same can be seen in this story. The Crossing is a complete police procedural thriller fiction. The writer has extensive knowledge on this subject due to being a crime reporter in his personal life, and I felt it quite well while reading the story.

The author’s storytelling is very good. One after another, he has described the events, the cycle of events, and the drama so beautifully, that I am just fascinated. There was a lot of detail in the story. Police procedural fiction requires detailed descriptions. But because of this, the pace of the story has not decreased at all. Everything was fine with that.
