My Review
Harry Bosch, a detective returning from the Vietnam War, who has gone through many ups and downs in life, currently works in the Hollywood Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. One night, when a dead body was reported, he went to the scene and found that the person was another veteran who worked in Vietnam and worked on the tunnel rating.
Starting to investigate this case, Harry Bosch learns at the beginning that this case is related to a famous bank robbery that happened last year, which was still unsolved. Now, what is the real relationship between these two cases? Will it remain unsolved like the bank robbery? What does “The Black Echo” really mean? To know that, read the first book of the Harry Bosch series written by Michael Connelly, “The Black Echo.”
Although The Black Echo is basically a murder mystery, it feels more like a bank heist-type mystery than a murder mystery. It is through this book the character Harry Bosch first appeared on the paper, which is now a very popular character.
The story is very slow in the beginning, and at some points, it is annoyingly slow. The main story starts after about halfway, but towards the end, the story picks up well. The story plot has some typical cliches, but overall not bad. As a character, Harry Bosch has a rather murky character, especially his past life activities. Instead, the secondary characters got better space than the main character. But the best part of this book is the “Tunnel Rating” section. Connelly describes the place very well.
