Don’t Let Go is a 2017 mystery-thriller novel by American author Harlan Coben. Harlan Coben is known for twists in his books. Don’t Let Go is also no different than his other book. This book is also full of twists. Now, let’s talk more about the book.
Plot
Imagine you are lying under the starry sky with the girl you love. Strong love and affection surround you. Your lover whispers to you in that emotional moment, “Don’t let go.” And you also promised her you would never let her go. And right after that, the girl disappeared from your life. Completely disappeared without any explanation. What do you do?
Napoleon Dumas, Homicide Investigator of the Westbridge City Police Department. In familiar circles, he is known as Nap. One night fifteen years ago, his girlfriend Maura mysteriously disappeared from Nap’s life. On the same night, the mutilated bodies of Nap’s twin brother Leo and his girlfriend Diana were found crushed by a train near Westbridge. Today’s homicide investigator, Nap, could never consider these two mysterious incidents fifteen years ago as separate. And to give wind to this idea, some new mystery came into his life.
Police officer Rex Canton was murdered in Pennsylvania. He was shot and killed. The murdered Rex was one of Detective Nap’s close friends from high school. However, for this very reason, Nap was not contacted by two officers from the Pennsylvania Police Department. They contacted Nap, as the fingerprints of Maura, Nap’s girlfriend who disappeared fifteen years ago, were found at Rex’s murder spot. The fingerprint that Nap uploaded to the police database himself after Maura disappeared. Naturally, Nap decided to solve the mystery of Rex’s murder and Maura’s return.
Detective Nap began the investigation with full enthusiasm. Gradually, Nap comes to the history of the ‘Conspiracy Club,’ a secret society formed by some high school students in Westbridge fifteen years ago, whose members may have discovered some important information related to national security. The fate of Hank, Ellie, Beth, and many others became involved in the case. Detective Nap also received guidance from Westbridge Police Chief Augie Stiles in various ways in the investigation. Chief Augie himself is carrying the pain of losing his only daughter.
A secret military base was set up in Westbridge during America’s Cold War with the Soviet Union. The unusual death of a few people and some unexplained questions born fifteen years ago turned the turning point in the life of Homicide Investigator Nap. He had no idea how horrible the truths looked. But those truths were revealed after some time.
My Review
New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben is nothing new to thriller readers. I have had the opportunity to read only four of his books before this: Fool Me Once, Gone For Good, Run Away, and Tell No One. Now I have read Don’t Let Go. The entire novel revolves around several recent murder mysteries, including the investigation of the mysterious death of a homicide investigator’s missing girlfriend and twin brother fifteen years ago.
Harlan Coben’s thriller novels always begin at a slow pace. After that, the pace of the story gradually increases. In ‘Don’t Let Go,’ I noticed the same thing in Harlan Coben’s previous book. In the beginning, it seems that the writer will write a simple mystery story. But the deeper we got into the story, the more complex and complex the mystery became. Then he throws one twist after another. Based on all these, the last twist came silently, which I could predict to some extent. The ending of ‘Don’t Let Go’ was impressive. The book can be called a fast-paced thriller.

Personal Rating
8/10. Another masterpiece from Harlan Coben. If you enjoyed reading “Tell No One” or “Run Away,” I think you will like this book far better because the story is very organized and full of twists.
